Yes, this lock-down has left me with much too much unsupervised time on my hands! But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
I have been looking for ways to jazz up my apartment - maybe with some printed and laminated quotes from serious thinkers – and once again chanced on one of my favorites.
T.E. Lawrence was an Archeologist tasked with uniting scattered Arab tribes as one army against the Ottoman Empire during WW1. He gained their trust and blended in so well with the tribesmen that he received the title of Lawrence of Arabia. He later wrote a book, Seven Pillars of Wisdom, chronicling what he had learnt in his time in the desert. Unfortunately, he died much too soon (in my not-so-humble opinion!) in a motorcycle accident in 1935. (A movie was later made of his life, starring Peter O'Toole, an actor who looked strikingly similar to Col. Lawrence!)
I reckon he was one of the biggest mistakes the British had ever made, and 100 years later, they are still reaping the consequences. But that's a different post.
Here's my favourite quote. May we all become daydreamers!
